“I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11)

Reflection:

Jesus is truth, strength, and protection. Under his care, faith sanctifies frailty; hope overcomes darkness; charity provides shelter.

Today’s Intention

Lord, be my shepherd today and always.

‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ (Luke 15:6)

Today we celebrate the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. There is not much I can say to express the meaning of today’s solemnity other than Jesus’ love is infinite and merciful. His love is such that he sacrificed his life so we could be saved from evil, redeemed from sin, and be resurrected.

Jesus’ heart is our model to selfless compassion. Jesus is the shepherd I can trust. I know that when lost, Jesus will leave all his sheep in the desert to look for me and he will rejoice when he rescues me. That should be a consolation of mercy for all of us.

May the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus radiate his light on us this day.

Father, we honor the heart of your son, broken by our cruelty, yet symbol of love’s triumph, pledge of all that we are called to be. Teach us the see Christ in the lives we touch and to offer him living worship by love-filled service to our brothers and sisters. We ask through Christ our Lord.

Family of God

“I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, that they may be all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” ~ John 17:20-21

In today’s Gospel, our Lord Jesus prays to his Father for every human present and future. He prays for us to become one in Him just as He and his Father are one in each other. Jesus prays for us to become a family of God. What a magnificent gift! Jesus desires for us to gather around him as the sheep gather around the shepherd. Therefore, let’s always pray for each other to remain a member of God’s family. That we, like good brothers and sister, build each other up and help each other stay within our Father’s ever watchful sight.

Meditations on the Seven “I am” Sayings of Jesus

This morning while reading the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible New Testament, I came across the Seven “I am” Sayings of Jesus. After reading them, I felt compelled to write a short meditation for each one.

1. “I am the bread of life” John 6:35

Lord Jesus, may we share your bread with the hunger in spirit

2. “I am the light of the world” John 8:12

Lord Jesus, may our lives be beacons to those in the darkness

3. “I am the door of the sheep” John 10:7

Lord Jesus, may we walk through it when we expire

4. “I am the good shepherd” John 10:11

Lord Jesus, may we always be under your protection

5. “I am the resurrection and the life” John 11:25

Lord Jesus, may your victory over death be the foundation of our faith

6. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” John 14:6

Lord Jesus, may our words, thoughts, and actions bind us to yours

7. “I am the true vine” John 15:1

Lord Jesus, may our branches never wither
