I am grateful for today’s solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul. After a week of failed leadership by judges and politicians, it is heartening to remember the lives of two of the most important leaders ever. They are good examples of how to persevere in faith and whom to trust.
St. Peter is the rock on which Christ built the Church; St. Paul, after persecuting Christians, became one of the most ardent and influential evangelists in Christianity.
They both suffered death at the hands of the law; however, their deaths planted seeds of faith, hope, and charity that have inspired countless Christians to carry on the Word of God despite political and judicial injustice, persecution, and self-righteousness. That’s the good news of today’s solemnity.
