One-Minute Reflection: Romans 15:5 (30 Days of prayer for unity #13)

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus.” (Romans 15:5)

Reflection

Harmony is another word for unity. It is a miracle that Paul, a man who persecuted Christians with zealotry, encourages us to think in harmony.

When we allow Jesus to transform us, we become his disciples. Through His teachings, we become instruments of healing instead of weapons of violence.

Today’s Intention: Lord, make us instruments of your harmony. Where there is division, let us sow unity. (Modification of Peace Prayer of St. Francis)

One-Minute Reflection: James 3:16 (30 days of prayer for unity #6)

“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exists, there is disorder and every foul practice.” James 3:16

Reflection:

No one is immune from the perils of jealousy and selfishness, not even the Apostles were so.

It is a dangerous practice when we measure our worthiness by comparing ourselves to others, especially when we are driven by pride. God made each one of us unique. He blessed us with our own gifts to share with others in harmony for His glory not ours.

Today’s Intention: O Lord, help us to recognize that we cannot build unity in the quicksands of jealousy and selfishness, but on the solid grounds of your love.
